Russia and Turkmenistan Compared Approaches to Ensuring Biological Security

On June 9, Russian-Turkmen interagency consultations were held in Moscow to discuss pressing biological security issues. During the meeting, diplomats and relevant experts from both countries exchanged detailed assessments of biological threats at both the global and regional levels, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The parties focused on the practical implementation of previously reached agreements, outlining a set of specific joint activities for the near future. Optimizing communication channels and increasing the effectiveness of interagency cooperation in this sensitive area were also on the agenda.
The recent round of consultations demonstrated Ashgabat and Moscow's unified approach to key aspects of international biosecurity. Participants in the dialogue expressed a shared view on the need for greater coordination. This cooperation will develop both bilaterally and at authoritative multilateral platforms, among which the key benchmarks are the UN General Assembly, the CIS, and the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC).
