A two-day specialized training session is taking place in Ashgabat, dedicated to one of the most sensitive topics in the negotiation process for Turkmenistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). Organized on June 10-11 by the International Trade Center (ITC) jointly with the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the event brought together over 50 industry experts from key ministries and agencies. The session focused on WTO rules governing the activities of state-owned trading enterprises and subsidy mechanisms.

For Turkmenistan, subsidies and incentives are crucial tools for developing domestic production, protecting local producers, and stimulating non-resource exports. At the same time, WTO rules aim to create a level playing field for all participants, which requires a high level of transparency and the gradual adaptation of state support measures to international market standards.

The practical significance of this training lies in preparing the national negotiating team. To successfully protect Turkmenistan's economic interests in future stages of integration, specialists must thoroughly understand the WTO classification of subsidies, clearly distinguishing between permitted ("green box") and prohibited support measures. Understanding these legal subtleties will allow existing national economic mechanisms to be adapted to international standards without compromising the country's strategic sectors and will enable sound argumentation during subsequent stages of the negotiation process and discussions in Geneva.
