On June 4, the opening ceremony and plenary session of the International Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to World Environment Day were held at the Turkmen State University named after Magtymguly.

The forum focused on key areas of the Sustainable Development Goals, environmental issues, and global climate change. As part of the event, a large-scale exhibition showcased Turkmenistan’s achievements in science, education, and environmental protection.

This year’s environmental forum brought together 347 delegates from 26 countries, including Turkmenistan. Ashgabat welcomed 130 foreign scientists, professors, experts, and postgraduate researchers representing 60 leading universities and research centers from countries such as Russia, the United States, China, Türkiye, Germany, the United Kingdom, India, and others. An additional 217 delegates represented Turkmenistan’s scientific community.

Conference participants highly praised Turkmenistan’s initiatives aimed at ensuring environmental security in the Central Asian, Caspian, and Aral Sea regions. They noted that the country is actively aligning its national legislation with international United Nations conventions, contributing to the successful development of a green economy.

Among the key practical measures highlighted were the implementation of the large-scale hydraulic engineering project, the “Altyn Asyr” Turkmen Lake, and the adoption of new laws regulating radiation and chemical safety, ozone layer protection, and the sustainable use of natural resources.

On June 5, the forum continued its work in specialized sections. The focus of discussions shifted to practical measures for environmental protection. Participants were divided into four key thematic areas, where they are examining the role of science in biosafety, innovations in natural resource management, water resource protection, and modern approaches to preserving the region’s biodiversity under changing climate conditions.
