Digit Androids Are Used to Assemble the Toyota RAV4
Digit humanoid robots have begun working at a Toyota plant in Ontario, Canada. They are used to produce the Toyota RAV4 crossover for the Canadian market.
The robots perform heavy and repetitive tasks previously performed by factory employees.
Robotic Functions in Production
Digit performs basic logistics tasks:
moving containers with automotive components, delivering parts to the assembly line, and removing empty containers.
The company notes that the use of robots reduces the workload on staff and reduces the risk of burnout.
Collaboration and Project Development
The project is being implemented under an agreement between Toyota and developer Agility Robotics, signed earlier this year.
Currently, three robots are working at the facility, but their number is planned to increase in the future. An artificial intelligence system for distributing tasks between humans and robots is also being developed.
Industry Context
Other automakers are also testing similar technologies. In March, BMW announced the launch of an experiment with humanoid robots called Aeon at its Leipzig plant.
