Apple has gained expanded access to Google Gemini neural network technologies. This strategic partnership will enable the company to transform Siri into a fully capable intelligent assistant in the near future. The new technologies will pave the way for creating compact AI models that can operate quickly and securely directly on users’ devices.
According to The Information, the agreement between the companies involves using a knowledge transfer approach, where capabilities from large models are distilled into smaller, more efficient algorithms. This will allow Apple engineers to train compact systems that replicate Gemini’s complex reasoning while requiring significantly less computing power.
The main advantage of this approach will be enhanced user privacy, as most operations will be performed locally on the device. A major Siri update is scheduled to be unveiled at the WWDC conference in June. Following the integration of new features, the voice assistant is expected to become truly proactive.
The upgraded Siri will be able to remember details from past conversations and understand user context. It will also proactively suggest useful actions—for example, advising users to leave earlier for the airport by analyzing current traffic conditions and flight timing. At the same time, Apple continues to develop its own independent AI technologies.
