Ashgabat, February 15 | ORIENT. Following major reshuffles in the government of Turkmenistan, personnel changes have also affected the security services. At a meeting of the State Security Council on Saturday dedicated to the results of January 2026, the President of Turkmenistan and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Army General Serdar Berdimuhamedov, made a key appointment to the leadership of the security services.
According to the decree of the head of state, Major General Dovletgeldi Meredov has been appointed Minister of National Security of Turkmenistan.
Major General Nazar Atagarayev, who previously held this post, has been relieved of his post due to a transfer to another position. The new head of the ministry has been tasked with further improving the agency's operations in line with modern challenges.
The recent Security Council meeting clearly demonstrated that Turkmenistan's defensive Military Doctrine is inextricably linked to robust social support for military personnel. January became a month of large-scale military housewarmings.
Ministry of Defense: A new complex of military buildings and structures has opened in the Lebap region.
Ministry of Internal Affairs: The next phase of the Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov cottage complex in the Choganly residential area has been completed, along with new 24-apartment buildings for police officers in the Balkan and Mary regions.
Prosecutor's Office and Migration Service: New administrative buildings have opened in the Esenguly and Tejen etraps.
Border Service and Customs: A new border outpost and service residential building for customs officers have been commissioned in Etrek.
The head of state reaffirmed the unwavering commitment to Turkmenistan's foreign policy, emphasizing that "Turkmenistan's state border is the border of friendship and brotherhood with neighboring countries."
At the same time, all law enforcement agencies—from the Prosecutor General's Office to the Customs Service—continue their efforts toward digitalization and bringing national legislation into full compliance with international law.
