Ashgabat, January 30 | ORIENT. As part of the implementation of the Digital Economy Development Concept for 2026–2028, Turkmenistan has begun a process of extensive modernization of its banking infrastructure. The focus is on the implementation of advanced financial technologies (fintech) and the upgrading of the hardware of leading credit institutions.

Deputy Prime Minister Khodjamyrat Geldimyradov presented a project for a large-scale technical refurbishment of three key financial institutions in the country: The Central Bank of Turkmenistan, the State Commercial Bank "Türkmenistan," and the Joint-Stock Commercial Bank "Türkmnebaşy."

Modernization of the material and technical infrastructure in this context means not simply replacing computers, but creating powerful computing centers capable of supporting modern information and communication systems. This will allow banks to

Speed Up Transactions: ensure instant payment processing in real time;

Develop Fintech Services: introduce new mobile apps, contactless payment systems, and online lending;

Ensure Cybersecurity: strengthen the protection of financial data in the face of growing digital transactions.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, approving the proposal, emphasized that the effectiveness of the entire financial system today directly depends on the depth of digital solutions implementation.

For the average user, this news means increased stability for bank cards and the emergence of new remote services. For the economy as a whole, it means the creation of a solid foundation, without which the smart systems and artificial intelligence announced in the new three-year digital economy development program are impossible to operate.
