Orient Technologies| Would you like to use the internet anywhere in the world — without Wi-Fi or cellular coverage? Apple and SpaceX are preparing a revolution for iPhone users. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be able to connect directly to Starlink satellite internet without additional equipment.
Currently, Apple uses the Globalstar satellite network for its Emergency SOS feature, which allows users to contact emergency services outside cellular coverage areas. However, the expanding Starlink network opens new possibilities. Apple is in talks with SpaceX to implement direct satellite connectivity technology.
According to Bloomberg and The Information, future iPhones may support 5G Non-Terrestrial Network technology, enabling the use of satellites to extend communication coverage. An API for developers may also be introduced, allowing satellite connectivity to be integrated into third-party apps.
SpaceX is strengthening Starlink’s position after receiving approval to deploy up to 15,000 second-generation satellites. These satellites provide higher bandwidth, lower latency, and the ability to connect directly to standard smartphones.
For users, this means more stable internet in remote regions and while traveling, without the need for extra hardware.
Apple will maintain its familiar approach to design and usability: satellite connectivity will work as seamlessly and transparently as possible for users. Starlink integration will significantly expand the boundaries of mobile coverage.
It was also previously reported that the memory chip shortage will not affect the price of the iPhone 18, meaning the new model will be available at the standard price.
With the iPhone 18, the world becomes closer: even in the most remote places, users will be able to stay connected, check email, communicate, and work online.
