Ashgabat, December 10 | ORIENT. As part of the celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, a meeting on the development of sports diplomacy was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Deputy Foreign Minister Akhmet Gurbanov met with Joël Bouzou, President and Founder of the Peace and Sport International Organization and Advisor to Prince Albert II of Monaco.
Mr. Bouzou arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the Forum, dedicated to International Neutrality Day and the International Year of Peace and Trust.
The parties placed particular emphasis on developing cooperation in promoting the ideals of peace, trust, and strengthening international ties through sport.
During the meeting, the positive dynamics of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Peace and Sport organization, based on traditionally friendly relations with the Principality of Monaco, were noted. Both sides emphasized that sport is an effective tool for humanitarian cooperation and strengthening diplomatic dialogue.
An important point of discussion was the proposal to host the Peace and Sport continental forum in Turkmenistan in 2026.
The planned event fits logically into Turkmenistan's strategy as an active player in sports diplomacy. Hosting the Peace and Sport continental forum in Ashgabat will be a continuation of a number of international initiatives, including the recent successful Friendship Games at UN Headquarters, organized by the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan. This underscores the country's growing role as a regional hub for dialogue and the promotion of the ideals of peace and trust through sports cooperation.
