On December 8, the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, met with Kakha Imnadze, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA).
The dialogue took place on the eve of International Neutrality Day and was dedicated to summing up the year, which, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, was declared the International Year of Peace and Trust.
Kakha Imnadze conveyed warm greetings from UN Secretary-General António Guterres and praised Turkmenistan's initiatives aimed at ensuring global peace and sustainable development in Central Asia. He particularly emphasized the country's significant contribution to the work of UNRCCA, which was established on the initiative of the National Leader of the Turkmen People.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in turn, noted that 2025 is a special year—the coincidence of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations significantly increases the significance of all events held.
The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) said that a high-level international forum will soon be held in Ashgabat, which will serve as the culminating event of the year and an effective platform for discussing key issues on the international agenda, sustainable development, and humanitarian cooperation.
Turkmenistan's cooperation with the UN today is strategic and long-term.
Turkmenistan continues to promote a number of vital initiatives that consistently enjoy broad support from the international community: peacekeeping and preventive diplomacy; energy security; the development of cross-border transport and transit corridors; and environmental protection.
The Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty also emphasized the importance of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov's recent visit to the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, where new guidelines for further cooperation were outlined, and emphasized the important role of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in ensuring sustainable development and strengthening good-neighborly and friendly relations in the region.
The Head of UNRCCA expressed sincere gratitude for the consistent support provided to the Centre's activities and reaffirmed his confidence in the further strengthening of fruitful cooperation with Turkmenistan, based on the solid experience of long-standing partnership.
