Educational Record: More Than 56 Thousand Students from Turkmenistan Study at Universities in Russia
15.10.2025 | 16:30 |Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation in the field of education continues to strengthen. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Nokerguly Atagulyyev, at a meeting of the Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
The Vice Premier reported that more than 56 thousand students from Turkmenistan are currently studying at higher educational institutions in Russia.
Nokerguly Atagulyyev expressed gratitude to the Government of the Russian Federation for providing special quotas for Turkmen applicants, which contribute to the successful implementation of this large-scale academic exchange.
In addition to higher education, both sides demonstrate close cooperation in the school sector:
• The Turkmen-Russian School named after Pushkin in Ashgabat is successfully operating, with more than 1.8 thousand students enrolled.
• Dozens of secondary schools in Turkmenistan offer instruction in the Russian language.
• The Russian language is included as a compulsory subject in all general education schools across the country.
Atagulyyev also praised Russia’s reciprocal efforts to support the Turkmen language and culture, mentioning the Magtymguly Secondary School built in the Astrakhan region, where the Turkmen language is taught.
The Vice Premier emphasized Turkmenistan’s high appreciation and readiness to further expand cooperation in this area.
