The Turkmen tennis player – on preparation of the national team for the stage of the Davis Cup

The Turkmen national team holds training to preparation for the largest team competitions - from September 6 to September 12, 2021 in the Olympic small town of Ashkhabad will pass the stage of the international tennis tournament for the Davis Cup.

One of the players of the national team in tennis is the repeated prize-winner of superiority of the country Yury Rogussky.

  • I have started to be engaged in tennis at the age of 9. Once my brother Alexander Ernepesov, who at that point, was the champion of Turkmenistan, took me to trainings. I was interested at once in this sport, I began regularly to attend trainings. And my journey to the tennis world started, - the sportsman tells. - Now Alexander is the trainer in Mikhail Youzhny’s team - the professional tennis player from Russia, 8th player of the world.

Yury represented Turkmenistan in the Asian indoor and martial arts games, held in Ashkhabad in 2017. Then the team was trained by the French expert Sebastian Mate, who had a wide experience of work with professional players. Among them - the Ukrainian tennis-player, the winner of 17 tournaments WTA Elina Svitolina. In due time Sebastian Mate entered into three of the best tennis players of France.

  • He worked, basically, for perfection of technical skills, - Yury tells. - For example, he trained, properly to enter into the court, to reduce a distance and to approach a grid that is to play more aggressive tennis. I am a versatile player - can take a ball on the court, I own stable blows, thus I also can quickly submit and beat strongly. But for the tennis player the important role is played also by the psychological factor. All can beat with right and left-hand side, but not everyone can cope with excitement and to be always concentrated on the game.

According to the player, the national team is determined to exclusively victory in the Davis Cup stage, intends to enter the third group and to be fixed in it. Opponents are of course, worthy, skilled, but it will not be easy either to cope with the Turkmen national team. Yet it is on the home arena. As they speak, houses and walls help.

The head coach of the national team Mirali Gasanov watches games of prospective opponents, analyses them, proceeding from it, builds tactics for the team.

The Davis Cup differs from other tournaments. First, it is a team game, secondly, the head coach can directly influence the game, direct the player, give instructions - tactical, technical or psychological. After all at times during game it is difficult to look at it from outside and the trainer can prompt, where your opponent or where you suppose defects is mistaken.

In 2019 the team of Turkmenistan also successfully performed in the Davis Cup, having taken the second place in group offset.

  • As a whole, we have a large team into which enter as experts in physical and psychological preparation, and a medical staff. One member of our national team is Isa Mammetgulyev who now trains in Slovakia. His model of game reminds Rafael Nadal's game, that is, he strongly twists a ball, plays densely, forcing thereby the opponent to be mistaken, - Yury who at present works as the trainer at the Institute of Border Service of Turkmenistan tells.

On March 3 representatives of the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan took part in the scientific-educational webinar, organised by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
