Meeting in Ashgabat: Cooperation with the World Bank on the “One Health” Project

On September 16, an important meeting took place in Ashgabat between Pierre Gerber, Senior Agricultural Economist of the World Bank, and representatives of the State Veterinary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan. The talks were held within the framework of the regional project “One Health in Central Asia,” aimed at protecting food systems and preventing future pandemics.

During the meeting, the key objectives of the project were discussed, including strengthening the capacity of the national veterinary service, enhancing epidemiological surveillance, and introducing international practices for the control of infectious and zoonotic diseases.

Arslan Soltanmyradov, Head of the Department of International and Scientific Relations, emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to strengthening the veterinary system to ensure food security. The planned activities are designed to improve the resilience of agri-food systems and the effectiveness of interagency cooperation.

The “One Health in Central Asia” project serves as an important platform for strengthening regional and global cooperation. It promotes a comprehensive approach to protecting the health of people and animals, which corresponds to the priority directions of Turkmenistan’s state policy.
