A robotic drummer has been created that can play complex compositions with high precision
11.08.2025 | 13:25 |A team of scientists from Switzerland and Italy has unveiled the "Robot Drummer," a robotic drummer that plays complex musical compositions with up to 90% accuracy. According to the researchers, this achievement could pave the way for robotic musicians to participate in live performances in the future.
The robot was trained using a machine learning system that converts music into a precise sequence of drum hits. First, the robot practiced in a virtual environment where it honed its technique and learned to imitate human-like movements, such as changing sticks or playing with crossed hands. In tests, the robot successfully handled compositions in various genres, from jazz to rock, including songs by Linkin Park and Bon Jovi.
The scientists now plan to transfer Robot Drummer's skills from simulation to a real drum kit. The next step will be to teach the robot to improvise so that it can adapt to music in real time, just like a live drummer.
