HeliumOS 10: a new type of operating system for computers
31.07.2025 | 15:30 |A new operating system for computers, HeliumOS 10, was released on July 28. This is not a typical system, but a "transactional" version of Linux designed for maximum reliability. Its key feature is its exceptional stability and the fact that it updates as a complete, single unit, which helps to prevent crashes and errors. HeliumOS is based on the well-known CentOS Stream and AlmaLinux systems.
Development of HeliumOS has been underway since 2024 with the goal of releasing a stable product that will receive support for 10 years. The core features of the system are:
• Linux 6.12 kernel from AlmaLinux, signed for secure boot.
• KDE Plasma desktop environment.
• Zsh shell by default.
• Btrfs file system with support for full-disk LUKS encryption.
• Docker pre-installed for container management.
For users experiencing hardware compatibility issues, an experimental version, HeliumOS 10 Edge Edition, is available. It runs on a newer Linux 6.14 kernel but does not support secure boot. Users can easily switch to it with a single command.
