The Ombudsman of Turkmenistan Held a Meeting with a Representative of the European Ombudsman
19.06.2025 | 21:20 |As part of the 17th Human Rights Dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union, which took place in Brussels, a meeting was held between Ombudsman of Turkmenistan Yazdursun Gurbannazarova and head of the Cabinet of the European Ombudsman Lampros Papadias. The negotiations, which took place in an atmosphere of professional interest, became another confirmation that the dialogue between human rights institutions between Turkmenistan and the EU is acquiring a new, constructive dynamic.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged information about their activities, talked about the history of the formation of their institutions, key functions and the specifics of considering citizens' appeals. Representatives of the European Ombudsman familiarized the Turkmen side with the latest annual report, focusing on the role of the institution as an inter-institutional body of the European Union, ensuring accountability, transparency and principles of good administration in all EU structures.
Yazdursun Gurbannazarova, in turn, spoke in detail about the work of the Ombudsman's Office of Turkmenistan, which currently consists of three specialized departments. It was especially emphasized that since its establishment in 2017, the institute has received support from international partners. The Turkmen side expressed interest in further exchanging experience, best practices and establishing regular cooperation with European colleagues.
Both sides highly appreciated the potential for dialogue and emphasized the importance of strengthening professional ties between the two institutions, indicating their readiness for more frequent bilateral contacts and practical event
