 Turkmen students took part in the 3rd International Student Leadership Meeting on Sustainable Development

The 3rd International Student Leadership Meeting on Sustainable Development (ISLMS 2025), organized by the University of Szeged jointly with the international organization UI GreenMetric, was held in Szeged, Hungary, from April 10 to 12, 2025. This prestigious international event brought together 64 outstanding student leaders from 57 universities in 27 countries, bringing them together to exchange experiences and discuss global challenges of sustainable development. This was reported by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan was represented at the event by three active students:

-Dilnoza Mamutniyazova, 4th year student of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology and Chairperson of the Student Council of the Oguzkhan University of Engineering and Technological Sciences;

-Selbi Ataeva, 4th year student of the Faculty of Biotechnology and Ecology of the same university, and also the UN SDG Youth Ambassador for Goal 12;

-Davud Dovletov, 2nd year student of the Faculty of Agricultural Processing of the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University.

Over the course of three days, participants actively participated in conferences, field group discussions (FGDs), environmental campaigns and cultural events under the general theme of “Challenges and Pathways to a Sustainable Future”.

The Turkmen delegation made a significant contribution to the international dialogue on sustainable development. Dilnoza and Selbi gave presentations on the implementation of sustainable initiatives at Oguzkhan University, while Davud shared his experience in the field of sustainable agriculture and eco-friendly food production.

All three participated in discussions on key topics of sustainable development, from climate change and water management to sustainable education and research, representing Turkmenistan’s diverse perspectives on the international stage.

A special highlight of the event was the visit to the exhibition “Katalin Karikó’s Journey to the Nobel Prize and Beyond”, dedicated to the University of Szeged graduate, the scientist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2023 for her revolutionary research in the field of mRNA vaccines. This became an inspiring example for the participants of the meeting, demonstrating how scientific achievements can change the world.

The meeting ended with the signing of the International Youth Declaration on Sustainable Development, symbolizing the collective commitment of students from all over the world to building a sustainable future. The participation of Turkmen students underlines the active involvement of the country in global sustainable development processes and the growing role of youth in shaping an environmentally sustainable world.
