Today, April 7, 2025, marks the 31st anniversary of the entry of the Russian national top-level domain .RU into the IANA database. Over this time, the domain has become an integral component of Russia's digital infrastructure, ensuring the accessibility and security of the internet for millions of users.

According to data from the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ, the total number of domain names in the .RU zone has reached 5,870,062, with 96.8% of these delegated and actively in use. The majority of domains – 84.7% – are registered within the territory of Russia, underscoring the leading role of the domain zone in the development of the domestic internet segment.

Over the past year, the number of domains in the .RU zone has increased by 281,811 domain names (5%), and the number of new registrations during the year amounted to 1,727,872. This indicates a stable interest from both individuals and businesses. The number of domain administrators has exceeded 2,023,603, demonstrating the scale of user involvement in the development of the digital space. For the past several years, the .RU domain has consistently been among the top 5 largest national domains worldwide, demonstrating registration rates for new domain names that are among the highest globally.

According to statistics, 49.1% of domains (or 2,876,794) are used for hosting websites and web applications, while another 16.8% (or 986,978) serve for the operation of mail services and redirects. Ensuring the security of the domain space remains a key focus of the Coordination Center's work.

The .РФ domain zone also continues to develop, complementing .RU and becoming increasingly popular among Russian users. The Cyrillic domain is particularly in demand among representatives of small and medium-sized businesses, as well as regional organizations and bodies of state and municipal authority.
