 A Turkmen cultural evening in Brussels: dialogue and traditions

At the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Kingdom of Belgium, a cultural evening was held dedicated to the promotion of intercultural dialogue, public diplomacy, and the presentation of the country's cultural heritage.

The event was a continuation of an official sessionpreviously held at the European Parliament on the issues of neutrality and peace, which garnered significant attention in European media. In particular, Eurasia Review and EU Today dedicated publications to it.

The evening was organized by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in conjunction with the European Network on Cultural Policy and Management (ENCATC). The event brought together representatives of the arts, cultural organizations, media, members of the European Parliament, and heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Brussels.

Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, delivered welcoming remarks, emphasizing the inseparable link between culture and neutrality in the philosophy of peace. "Culture builds bridges between peoples – stronger and more durable than any political agreements" he noted. The Ambassador also stated Turkmenistan's readiness to implement joint cultural projects both in Europe and within the country, which is a continuation of its neutral and open foreign policy.

Special gratitude was expressed to the Secretary General of ENCATC, Ms. GiannaLia Cogliandro Beyens, for her participation and support in organizing the event. In her address, she highlighted the importance of culture as a foundation for humanitarian dialogue and sustainable international partnership.

Appreciation was also expressed to Ms. Elena Kharitonova, founder of the Central Asian-European Creative Alliance, for her active engagement with the Embassy and her contribution to the development of cultural ties between the regions.

The evening featured a presentation of Turkmenistan's cultural heritage. Particular attention was paid to traditional jewelry, national embroidery, and decorative and applied arts, symbolizing the rich history, distinctiveness, and artistic expression of the Turkmen people's crafts.

Guests showed great interest in the presented exhibits, discussing the symbolism, style, and spiritual meanings of Turkmen culture.

The event concluded with a reception featuring traditional Turkmen pilaf, allowing participants not only to become acquainted with the culture through art but also to experience its flavor – as another manifestation of the hospitality and generosity of the Turkmen people.
