Doha hosts meeting of Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Qatar: focus on TAPI
17.03.2025 | 00:50 |Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov met with Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani during his working visit to Doha.
At the beginning of the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the prospects for expanding multifaceted cooperation between Turkmenistan and Qatar in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
The ministers emphasized the dynamic development of bilateral relations, noting that regular high-level meetings give a powerful impetus to Turkmen-Qatari relations, bringing them to a qualitatively new level. During the conversation, it was especially noted that the key areas for the further development of the Turkmen-Qatari partnership are the energy, investment and transport sectors.
The parties also held an in-depth exchange of views on current issues of regional security, development priorities and the socio-economic situation in Afghanistan.
Particular attention was paid to the progress of a major energy project - the construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline on Afghan territory. The Qatari side highly appreciated the efforts of Turkmenistan and expressed readiness for further cooperation in this strategically important area.
The interlocutors noted the constructive interaction of the two countries within the framework of international organizations. In this context, the Turkmen side informed about the holding of a representative Forum in Ashgabat on December 12, 2025, as part of the International Year of Peace and Trust, and invited Qatar to participate in this high-level event.
