Singapore discussed economic, transport and political issues with Turkmenistan
16.03.2025 | 05:45 |As part of his working visit to the Republic of Singapore, Ambassador Begench Durdyev held a number of meetings with senior representatives of the Singapore government and ministries, and also organized a diplomatic briefing on key events in the life of Turkmenistan.
The working visit began on March 12 with a meeting between Ambassador Begench Durdyev and Director General of the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore Samuel Tan. The parties discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda, including organizing high-level visits, holding political consultations, intensifying inter-parliamentary ties and cooperation within international organizations.
Particular attention was paid to expanding trade and economic ties and cultural exchanges. The Ambassador informed the Singaporean side about upcoming events in Turkmenistan and abroad dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the country's neutrality and the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, presenting the relevant Concept.
On March 13, Ambassador Durdyev held a meeting with Minister of the Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister of Education and Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Singapore Mohammad Maliki Osman.
The Ambassador spoke in detail about the events planned in connection with the anniversaries of neutrality and the Year of Peace and Trust, including a high-level international forum. The Minister was invited to visit Turkmenistan for political consultations and discussions on bilateral cooperation. The parties also expressed satisfaction with cooperation within the framework of international organizations and agreed to continue it.
On March 14, Ambassador Begench Durdyev held a diplomatic briefing, which was held at the Wyndham Hotel. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Transport, Trade and Industry of Singapore, Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, heads of diplomatic missions of Central Asian countries accredited in Singapore, as well as representatives of academia and the media.
The Ambassador briefed those present on the key political, economic, investment and cultural events planned in Turkmenistan in 2025, highlighting the events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of neutrality. The briefing participants were informed about large-scale programs and projects implemented in Turkmenistan under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, as well as the country's global initiatives within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust.
On March 15, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan continued meetings with representatives of the ministries of Singapore. A meeting was held with Deputy Director of the Europe and Central Asia Department of the Ministry of Trade and Industry Yu Sin Tai, during which issues of enhancing trade and business ties were discussed. The topics of concluding bilateral economic and trade documents, organizing business forums, attracting investments, studying experience in the field of e-commerce and requirements for the export of Turkmen agricultural products were touched upon.
On the same day, the Ambassador met with Director General of the International Relations and Security Department of the Ministry of Transport, Bernard Lim. The parties discussed the possibilities of expanding cooperation in the field of transport and logistics, including the modernization of the port of Turkmenbashi, shipbuilding and ship repair, interaction between specialized agencies and training of specialists.
The working visit of the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Singapore demonstrated the desire of both countries to further develop multifaceted cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
