President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received European Commissioner Josef Sikela
13.03.2025 | 00:40 |On March 12, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received European Union Commissioner for International Partnership Josef Sikela, who arrived in Ashgabat on a visit.
During the meeting, the parties noted the successful development of partnership between Turkmenistan and the European Union at the present stage. The increase in the activity of political and diplomatic contacts in recent years was noted.
Particular importance is attached to strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally. Relations in the Central Asia-European Union format were noted as an example of fruitful interaction, TDH reports.
It was emphasized that Turkmenistan and the European Union are successfully implementing a number of joint projects in key areas. Among them are science and education, ecology, energy, as well as the development of transport and transit corridors.
Given the advantageous geographical position of Turkmenistan, it is strategically important to expand transport and transit routes, it was noted during the meeting.
In this regard, the President of Turkmenistan emphasized the country's active work on developing promising transport corridors "North-South" and "East-West".
Particular attention was paid to the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi. The head of state noted that the port's capacity allows for a significant reduction in the time and length of routes for large-sized cargo and creates optimal conditions for access to key regional markets - the Black Sea coast, Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.
It was expressed confidence that the International Sea Port of Turkmenbashi will become a reliable link in strengthening trade and economic ties and interaction between the countries of Eurasia. At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and European Commissioner Jozef Sikela expressed mutual confidence in the further progressive development of mutually beneficial Turkmen-European partnership.
