Ashgabat and Tehran held political consultations and aligned their interaction priorities
12.02.2025 | 22:30 |On February 12, Tehran hosted political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Iran. The delegations of the parties were headed by the ministers - Rashid Meredov and Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
During the consultations, the parties exchanged views on bilateral partnership in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. It was noted that regular and confidential dialogue at the highest level contributes to the further strengthening of traditional good-neighborly relations.
Noting the importance of the International Year of Peace and Trust, the delegations discussed opportunities for building up Turkmen-Iranian cooperation to strengthen international peace, stability and sustainable development. In this regard, the role of partnership within the UN, as well as other authoritative international and regional structures, in particular the ECO and the OIC, was emphasized. An overview of the international and regional agenda was given.
The delegations noted the importance of inter-parliamentary relations. It was noted that the inter-parliamentary friendship group of the two countries is successfully operating. Upcoming events in this direction were discussed.
A separate topic of discussion was trade and economic cooperation. The indicators of bilateral trade turnover were considered. The fuel and energy and transport sectors were named among the priorities. According to the instructions of the top leadership, the parties outlined further steps to implement the tasks set, including in the field of water resources management.
In addition, the meeting participants discussed issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including the holding of joint events this year. Opportunities for strengthening ties in the fields of science, education, healthcare and sports were considered.
