Over 100,000 tons of sugar beets harvested in the Karakum etrap
12.02.2025 | 14:50 |Farmers in the Karakum etrap have exceeded the state plan for sugar beet deliveries, harvesting more than 100,000 tons of crop, surpassing the planned 75,120 tons. This was reported by «Нейтральный Туркменистан» newspaper.
The Karakum district is the largest region in the Murgap oasis for growing this crop. Last year, 6,000 hectares of sugar beets were planted here. The high yields were achieved thanks to the efforts of agricultural unions "Baýramaly," "Garagum kanaly," and "Ak altyn," as well as local entrepreneurs, some of whom exceeded their plans by 2-2.5 times.
Although the main portion of the harvest has already been delivered, the harvesting of root crops continues. Simultaneously, plowing and land leveling is being carried out on the cleared fields using modern agricultural machinery. Preparations for the spring season are also underway in the district.
A total of 1,000 hectares have been allocated for potato planting, and the main land preparation works have already been completed. The only remaining task is to resolve the issue of seed material. Similar work is being carried out in other districts of the Murgap Valley. In the Sakarchagin district, 1,450 hectares have been designated for potato planting, and farmers plan to start sowing in the second half of February.
