CNN reduces staff: a shift towards a digital audience
24.01.2025 | 13:05 |The American television company CNN will announce large-scale layoffs of hundreds of employees on Thursday. The main reason is the company's reorganization aimed at reorienting towards a "global digital audience". This is reported by the CNBC television channel.
Today, CNN is a division of CNN Global, part of Warner Bros. Discovery, and is known as a pioneer of 24-hour news broadcasting. In 2023, the television channel had 37 foreign bureaus and broadcast to an audience in more than 200 countries, with a total staff of approximately 4,000 journalists.
CNN is actively working on revising television broadcasting and developing digital subscription products. Currently, the television company employs about 3,500 people worldwide. The reductions will allow CNN to reduce production costs and optimize workflows.
For additional cost savings, CNN is considering moving the production of some programs from New York and Washington to Atlanta, Georgia. This step is designed to help the company use its resources more efficiently.
