Bulgarian Parliament Elects Rosen Zhelyazkov as New Prime Minister

125 MPs voted for Zhelyazkov, representing GERB - SDS, the coalition "Bulgarian Socialist Party - United Left", the party "There is Such a People" and the coalition "Democracy, Rights and Freedoms - DPS". 114 MPs voted against, there were no abstentions. The MPs expressed the same support for the new 19 ministers.
After the vote, the government was sworn in in full and will assume full powers in the coming hours.
During the debates and voting, President Rumen Radev, Bulgarian Patriarch and Sofia Metropolitan Daniel, representatives of the diplomatic corps and numerous guests were present in the hall. The head of state welcomed the choice of the new government and wished it successful work. "Bulgaria needed a government, a stable majority that would defend national interests. This government appeared to put an end to the political crisis and endless elections, I wish it success in governing the country," Radev said.
