 Global issues of strengthening peace and cooperation were discussed in Ashgabat

A conference dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust was held in Ashgabat. The event, entitled "International Year of Peace and Trust: Turkmenistan's Cooperation with the International Community", was held on Wednesday, January 15, at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the participation of high-ranking representatives of the country's government, diplomatic corps and international organizations.

The participants discussed topical issues on the global agenda, such as strengthening regional security, sustainable development and cooperation in combating climate change. Particular attention was paid to the Concept of Turkmenistan's Activities and Priorities within the Framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, presented by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.

In his speech, the Minister noted the importance of the telephone conversation held the day before between National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The head of the Foreign Ministry placed special emphasis on the Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, which reflects the country's positions on the main issues of the global agenda, consolidation of efforts of states based on mutual trust, joint dialogue and responsibility.

It was noted that Turkmenistan counts on the support of neutral, non-aligned and non-bloc countries, as well as all states that share the principles of non-interference and non-participation in conflicts, in combining their capabilities, experience and authority to create conditions for the transition to peaceful, political and diplomatic methods of resolving existing and potential conflicts.

The conference was also attended by the head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Kakha Imnadze, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko, UNICEF Representative Jalpa Ratna, Head of the World Health Organization Country Office Egor Zaitsev, and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Tomica Paovic. The conference was moderated by the rector of the IMO MFA of Turkmenistan Gulshat Yusupova.

The conference participants unanimously noted the importance of the Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust, aimed at consolidating efforts in addressing pressing issues on the global agenda.
