A new president of the Asian Development Bank has been elected
02.12.2024 | 14:50 |The Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has elected Masato Kanda, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Japan, as the 11th President of the ADB.
He will assume office on February 24, 2025, and will serve until November 23, 2026.
“Masato Kanda’s extensive experience in international finance and proven leadership in multilateral institutions will help the ADB address global economic challenges and promote international cooperation”, said Fabio Panetta, Chair of the ADB Board of Governors and Governor for Italy, adding that the ADB Board of Governors looks forward to working with the Japanese national.
In turn, Masato Kanda expressed his intention to play a key role in developing international cooperation as the chief representative of Japan.
Masato Kanda has significant experience in financial policy and macro fiscal policy. Previously, he served as Deputy Commissioner of the Financial Services Agency, Deputy Director-General of the Budget Bureau, and Deputy Minister for Policy Planning and Coordination. He is also a leading expert in the field of educational policy and scientific reforms, including university reforms.
