Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan discussed preferential tariffs for cargo via the Caspian Sea
13.11.2024 | 16:25 |Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan and head of the Agency for Transport and Communications Mammethan Chakyyev held a video meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakyt Torobayev.
At the meeting, the parties discussed issues of strengthening cooperation in the transport sector, as well as measures to increase the volume of mutual trade. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for increasing cargo flow via the Caspian Sea. Chakyev and Torobayev noted that this could create an effective logistics link for regional and international transportation.
The possibility of organizing multimodal transportation along the Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Russia route or the Alyat port in Azerbaijan with further access to European countries was also discussed. According to the parties, the launch of this route will help strengthen economic ties between Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan, expanding opportunities for regional and international trade.
In particular, it is planned to use the potential of the international seaport of Turkmenbashi to intensify cargo transportation across the Caspian Sea. Options for providing all types of transport, as well as preferential tariffs for Kyrgyz carriers, are being considered.
Earlier, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic, Bekzhan Rysmendeev, stated that his country is interested in the development of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor and supports initiatives to improve infrastructure and multimodal logistics. He said this at a high-level event to launch the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor Coordination Platform in Ashgabat on 3 October 2024.
