A meeting of the co-chairs of the Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission was held in Ashgabat
30.10.2024 | 20:45 |On 30 October, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting of the co-chairmen of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation - Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk.
Meredov and Overchuk initially held negotiations in a narrow format, after which the meeting continued in an expanded format, with the participation of heads and representatives from several ministries and agencies of Turkmenistan and Russia.
The participants of the meeting exchanged views on the further implementation of current projects, including in the fields of transport, energy, and other sectors, as well as on expanding cultural and humanitarian ties in health, science, and education, reported press service of the MFA.
TASS also reported, citing Overchuk, that the volume of mutual trade between Turkmenistan and Russia increased by 58% in value terms over the first seven months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister noted that the relevant agencies of the two countries have developed a draft program for economic cooperation between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Turkmenistan for 2025-2027, which is currently at the final stage of approval.
The next meeting of the intergovernmental commission is scheduled for early 2025. The planned meeting will be the 13th in number, the previous one was held on 7 December, 2022 in Moscow.
