World Habitat Day – How to Help Nature
06.10.2020 | 22:30 |World Habitat Day is marked on 6 October each year and is intended to remind the people worldwide to be aware the issues of preserving the fauna habitat of our planet. During the 19th century AD, some 150 species of mammals, mostly large ones, and 139 species of birds disappeared on the globe.
And yet, these figures are not the recent data, today many species of the animal world are on the brink of full extinction. Each extinction of species is a very tangible and irreplaceable loss.
World Habitat Day is intended to remind the world that we, humans, are only a part of nature and we all have the power and the responsibility to carve the future of our nature, and is further aimed at drawing the public’s attention to the destructive impact of anthropogenic factors on the environment.
People are destroying the one that needs to be preserved, that has been created for centuries and millennia by nature. Human activities are wiping out many plant and animal species. Some has been disappeared due to the hunting, while others – due to the loss of habitat, because natural habitat environment has been developed for megacities, factories and plants. All it caused that, every hour, 3 animal species are wiped off the face of the Earth, and every day, more than 70 plant species are vanished.
Over the last 25 years, the diversity of the Earth has decreased by more than a third. And people realized that it is a time to help nature if we do not want all animals and plants to be lost. To avoid it, scientists have compiled a special book – the Red Book. Associations and foundations for environmental protection are established.
To preserve the wealth and beauty of nature, to multiply and bring this priceless heritage to future generations are one of the most important state tasks in Turkmenistan.
In recent years, the areas of young forests, parks that bloom literally all year round have been rapidly expanded in the country. Man-made oases are spread over many thousands of hectares in different regions of Turkmenistan. The implementation of a grandiose greening program is also a significant contribution to the global challenge to tackle the negative consequences of climate change. Forest belts that made around each settlement, along the main highways and railways create a comfortable microclimate; in summer, they protect cities and villages from the hot breath of the Karakum Desert, while in winter – from cold winds. Man-made green environment also has a beneficial effect on biodiversity, becoming home to many species of animals that are exploring new habitats.
And this is also home to human being.
