Turkmenistan strengthens ties with Cambodia, Albania, Portugal and the Philippines
29.09.2024 | 14:46 |On 28 September, on the margins of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Rashid Meredov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held meetings with his counterparts from a number of states.
During a meeting with Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the foreign ministries of the two countries on holding political consultations.
The sides also discussed the possibility of exchanging business delegations to explore opportunities for enhancing trade relations.
The organization of joint events and prospects for cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were also discussed.
At the meeting with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, Igli Hasani, the importance of regular dialogue through the accreditation of ambassadors and political consultations was noted. Issues such as expanding trade and industrial cooperation, tourism, attracting investments, and establishing contacts between the business circles of the two countries were addressed.
The participants of the meeting exchanged views on elaboration of joint documents to promote intergovernmental cooperation in various spheres.
Interest was expressed with the Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Paulo Rangel, in establishing connections in the areas of water resource management, digitalization, science, culture, and education. Opportunities for participation in events held in Turkmenistan and Portugal were also discussed.
With the Foreign Minister of the Philippines, Enrique Manalo, possibilities for enhancing cooperation in economic and cultural-humanitarian fields were examined.
One of the key issues discussed at the meeting was Turkmenistan's initiative to create a new format for interaction between Central Asian countries and ASEAN. Turkmenistan proposed developing a dialogue mechanism called “Central Asia – ASEAN”, which would expand cooperation in trade, economics, culture, and humanitarian areas.
