June 5 – World Environment Day

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5. It was established in 1972 by the UN General Assembly and has grown into one of the largest global platforms for informing the public about the state of the environment.

Tens of millions of people participate in online and face-to-face events, events and promotions around the world.

This year's information campaign in honor of World Environment Day is dedicated to the problem of land restoration, combating desertification and droughts under the slogan "Our land. Our future. We are the #Generation of Restoration."

Global events in celebration of World Environment Day will be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Held since 1973, this annual day has also become a vital platform to promote progress towards achieving the environmental aspects of the Sustainable Development Goals. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), more than 150 countries take part in the celebration of this day every year. Large corporations, non-governmental organizations, communities, governments and famous personalities from all over the world use the World Environment Day brand to advocate for environmental interests.

2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. It was adopted in order to unite the efforts of State and public organizations at the international, regional, national and local levels to combat desertification, land degradation and mitigate the effects of drought.

The 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification will be held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, from December 2 to December 13, 2024.
