 A book about the outstanding Turkmen thinker and poet Dovletmammet Azady was presented in Baku

A presentation of a book about the work of the outstanding Turkmen thinker and poet of the 18th century Dovletmammet Azady “Vagzy-Azat: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow” took place in Azerbaijan. Did Dovletmammet Azady talk about the utopian or real world?” (in Azerbaijani and Russian languages). It belongs to the pen of the famous Azerbaijani publicist, political scientist, host of the author’s program on the CBC TV channel “Aspects of Foreign Affairs” Teymur Atayev, AZERTAC reports.

The presentation ceremony took place at the Nizami Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS) as part of the opening of the Center for Turkmen Literature named after Magtymguly Fragi.

The book was published by the “Ylym” Publishing House (Ashgabat) with the assistance of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The scientific editor of the work is Turkmen philologist Mergen Kurbanov.

Translation from Russian into Azerbaijani was carried out by Ilgar Alfi.

Dovletmammet Azady became the intellectual heritage of not only the Turkmen people, but also the entire Turkic world.

In the preface to the book, head of the department of the Institute of Language, Literature and National Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Rahmanberdi Godarov, defines one of the leitmotifs of Teymur Atayev’s work as revealing the full significance and enduring value of Azadi’s ideas not only for the Turkmen people. According to Rahmanberdi Godarov, the author scrupulously, scientifically, in a vivid presentation demonstrated the relevance as well today of the ideas voiced almost three centuries ago by Azadi in the poem “Vagzy-Azat”, both for the Turkic world and for all humanity in general.

This work by Teymur Ataev became a continuation of his research on outstanding personalities of the Turkic world. Previously, there were published Atayev’s works dedicated to Gabdulla Tukai (Kazan, 2019), Amir Timur (Tashkent, 2020), Abai Kunanbaev (Astana, 2020) and Chingiz Aytmatov (Bishkek, 2023).
