Astrakhan startup grows “green salt” in the Caspian lowland

Startup entrepreneurs from Astrakhan - Natalia and Anna Khazov - are engaged in the production of a healthy substitute for table salt. In the Caspian lowland, the sisters grow the salicornia plant and process it using a patented technology.

Their product is environmentally friendly, does not contain chemical additives and can help reduce salt consumption, the excessive use of which in Central Asia has previously worried experts from the World Health Organization.

The Caspian lowland is an excellent ecological area for growing salicornia. There are places with a similar ecosystem on the territory of Turkmenistan.

The “green salt”, grown by women entrepreneurs, contains a complex of mineral salts of potassium, magnesium and sodium. They are close in composition to sea salt and have various micro and macro elements. Vegetable substitutes added to dishes do not change their usual taste.

Entrepreneurs have not only worked the business component of their startup, but also conducted scientific research. Their research confirmed the effectiveness of the new product in the prevention of various diseases and was published in peer-reviewed scientific journals in Russia.

The startup is currently looking for funds to expand production. So far, the Khazov sisters perform all operations with the product manually, so the price of their product is high, and the production volumes are low. For the development of the project, the entrepreneurs intend to raise more than one and a half million rubles using crowdfunding.
