During a press conference on "Regional cooperation in the field of flight safety" within the framework of the 15th International Economic Forum "Russia - the Islamic World: KazanForum", Deputy Chairman of the Interstate Aviation Committee Sergey Zaiko reported on the global shortage of professional personnel in the civil aviation industry.

The head of the International Advisory and Analytical Agency "Flight Safety" Sergey Melnichenko noted that the problem of lack of specialists in the aviation industry was identified several decades ago. He recalled that back in the 1990s, the International Civil Aviation Organization predicted an inevitable shortage of pilots, controllers and other important specialists, citing the example of the current situation in the United States, where there is a shortage of several thousand controllers.

Oleg Lim, Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Agency of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, reported on the shortage of pilots in the country, which is why about 30% of the flight crew of the national carrier are citizens of the Russian Federation. Lim mentioned that Uzbekistan is working to create a national training base, including flight schools and academies, to close this gap in the next 2-3 years.

Oleg Storchevoy, Chairman of the Interstate Aviation Committee, expressed the opinion that the number of qualified specialists in aviation will decrease, but noted a significant improvement in flight safety in 2023. He added that aviation authorities around the world are taking various measures to ensure the safety of air transportation.
