The Russian public-private airline Aeroflot has introduced a service for transporting animals in the next passenger seat.

A passenger is allowed to carry one container with an animal or bird in the next seat in any class of service, be it economy, comfort or business. Payment for an additional seat is made at the rate that applies to an adult passenger. The total weight of the container including the animal should not exceed 15 kg. The maximum dimensions of a rigid container are 50x30x30 cm, semi-rigid - no more than 50x32x30 cm.

According to the airline, the pet must remain in the carrier during the entire flight in accordance with safety rules. The container may only be placed on seats near the window. It is also explained that a special handle or loop is required, which will allow the container to be tightly secured with a seat belt,

The service will be available on an ongoing basis on Aeroflot’s own flights and flights of its subsidiary Rossiya Airlines, which are operated under the SU code.

Testing conducted among owners of small animals and birds demonstrated the demand for this service. During this time, more than 900 pets were transported.
