A monument to the classic of Belarusian literature Yanka Kupala will be erected in Ashgabat. Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Belarus Nazarguly Shagulyev told reporters about this during a visit to the Vitebsk State Order of Peoples' Friendship Medical University (VSMU), BELTA correspondent reports.

“This year marks the 300th anniversary of our great poet Magtymguly Fragi, various events take place from January to December. In May there will be a meeting of ministers of culture of many countries in Ashgabat, in October the arrival of heads of state and government and the opening of a large 60-meter monument to the poet in the southern side of our capital is planned. In this alley there will be monuments to 25 representatives of foreign countries, including the representative of your country, Yanka Kupala,” he said.

The ambassador added that the height of the sculpture will be 4.9 m. “All approvals have already been made with the Belarusian side. We are waiting for this event (numerous guests - BELTA note), the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus has also been invited. The invitation to the October event is addressed to your President,” Nazarguly Shagulyev emphasized.
