NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) intends to place a huge air-balloon into the Earth’s stratosphere (link: ). It will operate about 2.5 meters long ASTHROS telescope, which will be used by the US Space Agency to observe young stars. It is also planned to study the gases accumulated around the newly-formed giants. What is an air-balloon for? This type of observation is hampered by the Earth’s atmosphere. Therefore, the telescope has to be placed at a sufficiently high altitude. ASTHROS is to rise approximately 40 kilometers above the planet’s surface. The preliminary launch date of an air-balloon is December 2023.
