New Carbon Footprint Calculator Launched
17.07.2020 | 11:20 |The innovative climate impact calculator, developed by the Swedish company Doconomy, has been launched recently.
This application will help companies around the world determine the carbon footprint of products and materials, and thereby increase their responsibility for the sustainability of their products. The calculator will allow consumers to make informed choices based on their impact on the climate, as this tool takes into account the emissions associated with all elements of the supply chain: raw materials, manufacturing processes, transport, etc.
To calculate the carbon footprint, the user must have production data available, including the total weight of the product, as well as the weight and material of each part of the product (or part of the packaging material), the location of its supplier, the manufacturing facility (and the type of energy used) and the final distribution center, including modes of transport between them.
The calculator has been released in beta version and is aimed initially at retailers and apparel manufacturers. But other product categories such as electronics, furniture and food will soon be included. The online application can be used by all stakeholders free of charge to assess actions in support of the implementation of the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, regulating measures to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from 2020.
