To calculate the carbon footprint, the user must have production data available, including the total weight of the product, as well as the weight and material of each part of the product (or part of the packaging material), the location of its supplier, the manufacturing facility (and the type of energy used) and the final distribution center, including modes of transport between them.
The calculator has been released in beta version and is aimed initially at retailers and apparel manufacturers. But other product categories such as electronics, furniture and food will soon be included. The online application can be used by all stakeholders free of charge to assess actions in support of the implementation of the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, regulating measures to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from 2020.
