Today, January 30, marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Mosfilm film studio. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

Mosfilm is one of the largest and most equipped film studios in Europe. It was here that the popularly beloved films were created, which have remained relevant for a century. The studio's birthday is considered to be the release of the film "On the Wings of Heaven" directed by Boris Mikhin in 1924. Although at that time the film studio was just a pavilion. And only three years later it began to form on Vorobyovy Gory.

"Today, on an area of 30 hectares there are 17 covered pavilions, two open–air film sets, a film studio where sound is written and films are mounted, a costume and props house, a car park, Mosfilmofond, a cinema and concert complex, administrative buildings, a park area. There are even toponyms that cannot be found on citywide maps: Leonid Gaidai, Sergei Bondarchuk, Isaac Dunaevsky Squares, Alley of Great Masters," RIA Novosti writes.

The film studio itself can also be seen in paintings – for example, in the film "The Caucasian Captive", when the Wedding Palace is opened. About 70% of the film material is shot in the scenery in the studio pavilions, and only 30 – on location. The territory of the pavilions is so huge that you can build an entire city in them. This is often exactly what they do – the scenery is prepared for a specific project and disassembled after filming. And there are also those who are 20 years old: for example, the decoration "Old Town of the XIX century", which was used in more than dozens of paintings.

So different cities can come out of the same city. According to Natalia Anufrieva, the guide of Mosfilm, the image of cities is collective. Buildings are often repainted, facades and signage are changed. It could be Paris, Berlin, London.

In total, there are half a million costumes and decor on the territory of the studio, from clothes to furniture, decor and even transport. All this also goes from movie to movie. The film studio has its own greenhouse, where bananas, grapes, tangerines, and lemons grow. This is also all used when you need to show "naturalness" in a picture, for example, to remove summer in winter, etc.

Working at a film studio is not limited to filming. Here they write scripts, make decorations, process the footage, make rolling film copies. Over a hundred years, more than 2.5 thousand films have been released from the studio. Of these, 1.8 thousand feature films and more than 800 short films. In Soviet times, Mosfilm produced up to 55 of its own full-length films per year. Today, the film concern, being a state-owned enterprise, acts mainly as a production base.

Among the most popular films of Mosfilm are "Moscow does not believe in tears", "Irony of Fate, or With a light steam!", "White Sun of the Desert", "Office Romance", "Love and Doves", "And the dawns are quiet here", "War and Peace" and many others.

In 2005, the Mosfilm TV channel was launched. The Golden Collection", which broadcasts classic Soviet films of various genres: dramas, comedies, melodramas, historical films, fairy tales and much more. It is available on most cable and satellite networks in Russia and the CIS countries. In Turkmenistan, the channel is available in the Belet Film online cinema.
