The Prime Minister of Iraq met with the head of "Turkmengaz"
07.10.2023 | 19:48 |Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met with the Minister of State, Chairman of the state concern "Turkmengaz" Maksat Babayev and his accompanying delegation, Mawazine News reported on Saturday, citing a statement from the office of the head of the Iraqi government.
It is noted that during the meeting, bilateral relations and ways of their development, strengthening of cooperation in the field of energy and gas were discussed, culminating in the signing of the "initial" joint memorandum of understanding on the import of Turkmen gas.
The message says that the Iraqi delegation will travel to Turkmenistan on October 25 to continue negotiations and sign documents.
The Prime Minister stressed that "the government pays great attention to the energy sector of Iraq and has made it one of its most important priorities." He explained: "Iraq has huge gas reserves, but it needs time to invest optimally after years of delay in this matter."
He noted: "The trend towards importing Turkmen gas is in line with the government's vision and strategy to diversify gas import sources, as well as diversify energy sources to ensure the continuity of power plants."
