The President of Turkmenistan called for the modernization of the water strategy of Central Asia
15.09.2023 | 12:20 |At the Summit of the Heads of State of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) In Dushanbe, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov called for the modernization of the Central Asian Water Strategy, which would reflect the basic principles and rules of cooperation on water issues in the region. The development of this document was initiated by Turkmenistan during its chairmanship in IFAS.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov also expressed the opinion that the Central Asian Water Strategy could serve as a basis for the creation of the UN Global Water Strategy, which would contribute to ensuring peace, stability and sustainable development in the world.
In addition, the Head of the Turkmen state proposed to consider the modernization of the Regional Action Plan for Environmental Protection of Central Asia, adopted within the framework of IFAS, and to include its environmental component in the new Action Program to assist the countries of the Aral Sea basin.
