20.08.2023 | 19:21 |Budapest and Ashgabat have signed a political agreement on gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Hungary, negotiations between the companies are next, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said.
"On the part of Turkmenistan, the political will and political intention is absolutely clear for Hungary to become one of the directions of potential supplies of Turkmen gas to Europe and one of the transit countries. A political agreement has been concluded, now it's the turn of the companies to continue commercial negotiations," Szijjarto said in a video message broadcast on the social network.
President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Sunday.
According to the MTI agency, it was not only about energy, but also the expansion of cooperation in the fields of healthcare, pharmaceutical industry, agriculture, food industry, water management, as well as in the field of education and culture.
The head of Turkmenistan arrived in Budapest on Sunday on a working visit at the invitation of Viktor Orban to participate in the events of Hungary's main state holiday - St. Stephen's Day. Serdar Berdimuhamedov will also be among the honored guests of the World Athletics Championships, which is being held in Budapest.
