Turkmenistan-WTO cooperation discussed in Ashgabat
29.05.2023 | 23:12 |The intensification of cooperation in the context of Turkmenistan's accession to the World Trade Organization was discussed in Ashgabat on Monday by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev and Director of the Department for WTO Accession Maika Oshikawa. The expert arrived in the Turkmen capital on a working visit, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the negotiations, it was said that the Turkmen side had prepared and approved a Work Plan for 2023-2024 to expand cooperation with the WTO Secretariat. It was noted that the program outlines specific actions in this direction.
Maika Oshikawa got acquainted with the program prepared by the Turkmen side on the implementation of a large volume of tasks to complete preparatory measures for Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO. Currently, active domestic work is underway to prepare a Memorandum on the foreign trade regime. The submission of the document is one of the conditions for joining the WTO.
The Turkmen diplomat also reported on the consistent work of the Interdepartmental Government Commission to study issues related to WTO accession. In this direction, cooperation has been established with the UN and its specialized agencies, international financial institutions - the IDB and the ADB, he noted.
