BelTA: Belarus to take part in the development of the North–South ITC
15.03.2023 | 12:35 |Belarus, together with Iran and Russia, will take part in the development of the international transport corridor "North – South", BelTA reports with reference to the Minister of Transport and Communications of Belarus Alexey Avramenko.
The agreement was reached following the talks between the Presidents of Belarus and Iran in Tehran.
"This is a very important corridor, and we agreed to develop it together. When we talk about transportation in Iran, we are also talking about transit through Iran to distant countries," the minister said, stressing that the Iranian side has begun construction of 180 kilometers of railway to complete the North—South corridor in the direction of the port of Bandar Abbas.
The North-South International Transport Corridor was created to attract transit cargo flows from Iran, India and other Persian Gulf countries to Russia (via the Caspian Sea). The legal basis of the project was the intergovernmental agreement on the North–South ITC signed by Iran, India and Russia in St. Petersburg in September 2000.
