A meeting of Council of the CIS heads of states, chaired by the President of Turkmenistan, was held in Ashgabat.
The leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan addressed the meeting of the CIS heads of states Council in Ashgabat. They paid special attention to trade and economic relations in the Commonwealth, defined to be strategic.

In particular, Russian President Vladimir Putin, citing a number of indicative figures, noted that cooperation within the framework of CIS does not limit, but helps to develop cooperation with third states.
“We need to continue to eliminate trade barriers, increase production and technological cooperation,” said the head of the Russian Federation.

In this regard, Putin highly appreciated the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s initiative of the CIS presidency on the development of a Declaration on strategic economic cooperation of the CIS participant-states, which will be signed by the leaders of the CIS countries today.

“The movement is absolutely in the right direction,” said the Russian President. He noted that this comprehensive document provides for measures to promote ties between enterprises, implement sectoral areas of cooperation, etc. Particularly, we are talking about high technology, building transport infrastructure, telecommunications networks, innovative development of energy.
Vladimir Putin noted another important aspect, as settlements in national currency.
