Ashgabat hosts commemoration ceremony for victims of earthquake of 1948
07.10.2019 | 16:23 |On October 6th, flowers were laid on the occasion of National Memorial Day in the Ashgabat memorial complex "People's Memory".
On this day, the country pays tribute to the thousands who died during the disastrous Ashgabat earthquake of 1948, as well as the defenders of the Geoktepe fortress and the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
The ceremony was attended by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who laid wreaths at the monuments of the memorial complex.
Flowers were also laid by members of the leadership corps, heads and employees of foreign diplomatic missions, studying youth and many other residents of the capital.
Then, here, in a specially designated place, according to the tradition established by the Turkmen people, sadaka - a memorial meal, was held.
