Olympic qualification tournaments for Turkmen weightlifters have become known
08.12.2022 | 17:34 |The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) announced the full list of qualifying competitions for a ticket to the 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris. The list was announced at a special congress of the International Weightlifting Federation in Bogota, Colombia, before the World Championship from December 5 to December 17, 2022.
This championship is the first step for athletes on their way to Paris. Turkmenistan is also represented on it. This will be followed by four continental championships and the IWF Grand Prix in Cuba. The 2023 World Weightlifting Championships will be held in September next year, the Oceania Championship at the Pacific Games in November and another IWF Grand Prix in December.
In January and February 2024, qualification will continue with all five continental championships, followed by the final stage, the IWF World Championships in Thailand in April.
The qualifying period ends three months before the start of the Games in Paris on July 26, 2024.
The member federations also supported proposals to further improve the IWF's activities and strengthen the provisions related to the fight against doping. The changes are based on the IWF's commitment to pure competition, which is at the heart of the updated Olympic Qualification system for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
So, Matthew Curtain, the IWF technical delegate in Paris in 2024, announced the proposed changes in the duties of athletes to register their location, which they must do three months before each qualifying competition.
This, in turn, tightens anti-doping procedures, since there are no long breaks between competitions.
Among the proposed changes are the study of beach weightlifting competitions, as well as measures to shorten the duration of future IWF World Championships. IWF Vice President Peter Krol outlined the commitment to introduce mandatory coaching licenses for all coaches at world and continental competitions from 2024.
