Astana to host three CIS summits in October
02.10.2022 | 03:57 |Astana will host three summits at once in mid-October - the summit of the CIS heads of state, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) and "Central Asia – Russia".
VI CICA will be held on 13 October. Kazakhstan is chairing the CIS this year. CICA is an interstate forum created on the initiative of Kazakhstan in 1992. Its headquarters is located in the capital of the republic. Turkmenistan gained observer status in CICA in 2021.
The leaders of the Commonwealth countries will meet on October 14 in the format of a summit of heads of state, and on the same day the Central Asia-Russia summit will be held.
To date, 14 points are included in the draft agenda of the Council of Heads. In particular, the heads of state will consider the creation of an international organization under the auspices of the CIS for the support and promotion of the Russian language, the preparation of the draft agreement on free trade in services, as well as a number of others.
Preparations for the next meetings of the Council of Heads of State and the Council of Ministers of Foreign Cases of the CIS, were discussed on Friday in Minsk by permanent plenipotentiary representatives of the Commonwealth.
Permanent Representatives also analyzed the activities of the Council for Cultural Cooperation and its plans. Including it was about events dedicated to the Year of folk art and cultural heritage in the CIS, preparation in the Commonwealth in 2023 of the Year of the Russian language as the language of interethnic communication, the support of the interstate programs “Karakol – the cultural capital of the Commonwealth of 2022” and “Komrat – the cultural capital of the Commonwealth 2023”, international exhibition “Art Expo” in 2024 in Kyrgyzstan. The development of an international project “The Precious Necklace of the Commonwealth” is also scheduled.
